About me
& why I am running for re-election
I grew up in a small town, lots of open space, and with our own unique character. The closest large city was 45 minutes away, close enough to visit once a month, and far enough away not to affect us. Once I got into a career in computers I ended up in the “big city” and though it was fun for a time, I like living where things are a little more spread out, the people not so high-paced, and just… different, but in a very nice way. If you have ever heard Reverend Horton Heat’s “Rural Point of View” that would be a good choice for my theme song.
This is why our family moved to Wylie. We like something that is a small town, and still has some proximity to where I need to be to support my career but lacks the hustle and bustle of the big city. A place where you can see critters in your backyard on a frequent basis and the sight of cornfields and cows when you’re heading out of town; like my old hometown all those years ago.
Preserving this was one of the primary reasons I ran in 2020 and 2021, and it is still one of the primary reasons I am running for re-election now. My campaign slogan may be “Focused on Wylie” but “Keep Wylie WYLIE” was a close second, but keeping my focus on Wylie is exactly how I can work to keep Wylie “Wylie”.
It has been my privilege and joy to serve Wylie on City Council since November 2020, and I look forward to continuing serving you for another term. There is still a lot of work to do to improve Quality of Life, Infrastructure, and maintain Responsible Spending. The open land is getting scarce and while we can all expect developers to buy property and want to build something on it, it is still important to identify and preserve open spaces for our residents.
The traffic situation is also another area of focus, both in terms of the pass-through traffic on 544 and 78, and also in efforts to reduce collisions, injuries, and fatalities as we have seen in recent times. To accomplish this, as well as other essential functions of city government, requires funding and it is incumbent on us to ensure that every taxpayer dollar is wisely spent; looking for ways to stretch dollars and also looking for ways to maintain, if not reduce, our tax rate. Attracting the right businesses to Wylie that provide shopping, activities, jobs, and tax revenue is an important element to accomplish this. I will continue to focus on this for as long as I am on council.
Even though Wylie continues to be in the midst of rapid change, we can work to preserve the best elements of Wylie that make people want to live here, while also offering the opportunities that people need to succeed and enjoy life. I will continue work to keep our taxes low, our public safety strong, and improve our infrastructure to keep pace with demand. Working together we can all Keep Wylie “WYLIE!”
